Office of the President – “use of Holy Books was discontinued and oaths are now to be taken ‘with uplifted hand’”

“Citizens have expressed interest and concern about the non-use of Holy Books in yesterday’s swearing-in of the Prime Minister and Cabinet,” says Her Excellency, President Paula-Mae Weeks.

According to a statement posted to the Office of the President Facebook page this afternoon”the Office of the President hopes that the following explanation sheds some light.”

“By virtue of the Miscellaneous Amendments Bill 2020 Clause 5, which amended the Oaths Act Section 4, the use of Holy Books was discontinued and oaths are now to be taken “with uplifted hand”.
