ODPM and Health Min warn population: Be careful aound flood waters

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) is advising persons residing or traversing flood and landslip prone areas, to be prepared and take the necessary action to reduce the impact of inclement weather.

A release noted that present conditions are expected to continue over the next 36 – 48 hours, which will result in further elevation of river levels.

The situation will be exacerbated as runoff would be slow at high tide.

In combination, the circumstances will result in a high risk to public safety, livelihoods and property.

The Ministry of Health meanwhile is reminding members of the public to take the necessary steps to avoid the health risks associated with flooding and flood related diseases as we experience adverse weather.

A release noted that flood waters may carry silt, raw sewage and bacteria that can contaminate food and water.
