Nutrien to close one of its petro-chemical plants

Nutrien has announced the indefinite closure of its Petro-chemical plant in Trinidad.

The company said they had to suspend operations in its PC3 plant in light of the current market condition and lower global prices for ammonia.

An estimated 50 workers are expected to be laid off but they will be offered a voluntary separation package which should be settled by October.

The effective date of their separation will be October 30.

The company’s other two plants and the associated urea facility will continue to operate at maximum capacity.

The other plant, PCS 02, was taken offline in May due to market conditions and is expected to come back online as conditions improve.
