Not enough money to fix all bad roads says Works Minister

Chaguanas and Claxton Bay residents became the latest to join the string of fiery protests across the country over bad roads and what many describe poor representation.

Residents said repeated calls for repairs to the Edinburgh Road in Longdenville, which leads to HDC’s Cashew Gardens settlement, have not been addressed.

Moruga residents also stepped up their protest action, blocking the main road, bringing a halt to traffic heading into Princes Town and environs.

Meanwhile, Works and Transport Minister Rohan Sinanan says although he understands citizens’ frustration, there is simply not enough money to repair all the nation’s roads.

Speaking with reporters yesterday, he addressed fiery protests across the country many of which have stemmed from frustration over poor road conditions.

He said the country’s ageing infrastructure and inclement weather were also making road repair projects more difficult to carry out.
