Norway Pledges Additional €1bn In Support For Ukraine

Norwegian, Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, has pledged an additional €1bn to support Ukraine for the rest of 2022 and 2023.

The Norwegian government said it has contributed around €202m in support to Ukraine and its neighbouring countries up until now.

This is in response to Russia’s military aggression.

Prime Minister Gahr Store said the money was to help Ukraine support people in need, to defend itself and for reconstruction,

Mr Gahr Store was speaking at a news conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Norwegian government said it has contributed around €202m in support to Ukraine and its neighbouring countries up until now, in response to Russia’s military aggression.

European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, has also proposed an €1 billion in macro-financial assistance for Ukraine – it follows on from the €600m EU support package announced in May.

It comes as President Zelensky urged Nato leaders to do more to help Ukraine’s war effort, and said the monthly cost of defence for Ukraine was around $5bn.
