The Met Office says normal to slightly below-normal rainfall amounts are expected in September to October 2024.
This, despite the passage of rain-bearing systems in the second half of the wet season and peak months of the Atlantic hurricane season.
In its Dryness/Drought Indicator, Monitor and Outlook By End of August 2024, it says the recent cooling of the sea surface temperatures in the tropical Atlantic Ocean, higher atmospheric pressures, stronger winds and more evaporation will likely lower rainfall amounts from September to October.
However, the expected transition from ENSO Neutral to weak La Niña conditions is expected to increase rainfall intensity and rainfall amounts from mid-October.
