No Support For Government’s Safe Zone Policy Without Clear Framework, Maintains Trade Union Federations.

Three Trade Union Federations are claiming Monday’s meeting called by Minister of Planning and Development, Camille Robinson Regis, started contrary to what was the stated objective in the invitation as great part of the meeting focused on Safe Zones.

In a media release Tuesday, the Joint Trade Union Movement, the National Trade Union Center and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions and Non-Governmental Organisations, claimed the Minister of Health and Chief Medical Officer simply verbally presented the government’s implementation of the safe zones.

However, the Trade Union Federations said in the absence of a clear framework, it cannot support this concept.

The Federations said they are vehemently against expanding any safe zones to already opened sectors.

The Federations said the meeting was not a reconvening of the National Tripartite Advisory Council a sentiment that was confirmed by the Minister of Planning and Development.

As such, the Federations said any communication sent out publicly by the Government must ensure that this process be noted for what it is and not a reconvening of NTAC in any format.
