No need to walk around with vaccination cards – Quick Response codes coming soon

With safe zones soon to be a part of our new normal, walking around with your vaccination card may seem like a tall order to remember.

However, government is hoping to eliminate that issue, with the implementation of quick response (QR) codes or barcodes.

QR codes will be available for people in Trinidad and Tobago to access their covid19 vaccination records and will be made available on cellphones.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, speaking at a vaccination drive in Marabella on Friday, said, “We are putting data in our database. In about six-eight weeks, we will have that system up where people can have their vaccination status on the phone with a QR code to scan”. “People would not have to walk around with a physical card.”

The minister said it would be up to business owners to have the codes scanned.

He added, “It is not an expensive technology. The smallest of shops have barcode scanning at a cashier level. It would boost their businesses.”
