Government is not at this time considering inviting International and Regional Observer teams to monitor the upcoming General Elections in Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, insists polls over the years have been done in a free and fair manner.
The Member of Parliament for Oropouche East, Dr Roodal Moonilal, wanted to know on Friday from the government whether any steps will be taken, in a timely manner, to invite the election observers.
Opposition Political Leader, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, made the call for observers for next year’s general election at a UNC public meeting in Chaguanas on September 16.
Persad Bissessar said she has formally written to the Prime Minister to requesting government invite independent, international election observers for the election.
However, Dr Rowley said at no time money has never been an issue to facilitate and bring elections observer in this country.
