No deportation of 26 Venezuelans until matter resolved

Justice Avason Quinlan-Williams has ruled that a group of Venezuelan migrants – 16 children and ten adults – who entered this country illegally, will not be deported.

The judge gave the order on Wednesday night, saying that the minors and adults could not be deported while the matter is before the courts.
They lawyers will return to court at 7 pm on Thursday.

The 26 will be required to stay at the heliport in Chaguaramas for the next 14 days until the court makes a final determination on their status in Trinidad and Tobago.

Quinlan-Williams called on the Attorney General to devise a new policy, saying “the situation could not go on this way, with children being detained in jail-like facilities or police stations or separated from their parents.”
