A 36-year-old pastor who appeared virtually before a Sangre Grande Magistrate Monday was denied bail on seven counts of sexually touching his niece.
The accused, who was also charged with one count of abuse of position of trust and familial relation, was remanded into custody until his next hearing which is scheduled for November 16th, 2021.
The man was arrested and charged on October 25th by PC Mathison of the Eastern Division Child Protection Unit.
The charges stem from a police report in September 2021 in which a woman reported to CPU detectives that her niece was allegedly sexually touched by a male relative.
Investigations, headed by W/Superintendent of Police, Claire Guy-Alleyne, and directly supervised by Acting ASP Roberts and Sergeant Baptiste of the Eastern CPU, culminated with the arrest of the suspect who was subsequently charged with offences.
