No bail for man charged with cocaine and store breaking

Francis Scott Bernard, aka “Scotty”, 42, of Bath Street, East Dry River, Port of Spain, and Dexter Skeete, aka “Slatter”, 58, of Map Lands, East Dry River, Port of Spain, appeared before Magistrate Maureen Baboolal- Gafoor at the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

Bernard was charged with receiving stolen articles and was granted own bail in the sum of $10,000 and will have to visit the Central Police Station to sign on Wednesdays. He is expected to reappear before the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28th July, 2021.

Skeete, charged with possession of cocaine, possession of apparatus, and store breaking and larceny, pleaded guilty and was remanded into custody for sentencing. He is expected to reappear before the Port of Spain Magistrates’ Court on Monday 26th July, 2021.

Around 6.00pm, on Tuesday 20th July, 2021, members of the Port of Spain City Police Task Force, were on foot patrol along Charlotte Street.

While there, PC Mc Guirk observed a man fitting the description of a known larceny suspect. He approached the man and conducted an interview. Based on the information, the man was arrested and taken to the City Police Station.

Upon conducting a search on the man, it was discovered that he was in possession of cocaine amounting to 12.4 grammes and a clear cylinder pipe. PC Mc Guirk conducted investigations and further interviewed the man. He confessed to stealing three cushions from American Stores and stated he later sold the items to “Scotty”.

The man then led officers to another man who he alleged purchased the items. PC Mc Guirk conducted enquiries and interviewed the man.

He stated that he bought three cushions from “Slatter” for $20. The man was then arrested and conveyed to the City Police Station. The two men were then charged for the offences.
