No Activation of National Contigency Plan Following Illegal Dumping Of Oil At Caroni

Oil samples have been taken, will be assessed and action carried out against those reponsible.

This is the update coming from Acting Minister of Energy and Energy Industries, Colm Imbert, relating to the illegal dumping of oil in the Caroni River.

On Wednesday the Senate was told the effect of the incident has not been so severe to cause the activation of the National Oil Spill Contingency Plan.

A specialist contractor which has done work with Heritage Petroleum has also been mobilised and the spill was attended to by the line Ministry which is also getting help from oil operators and the Forestry Division.
