New St Clair Police Station opened

The new St Clair Police Station officially opened on Friday, July 8th, 2022. Commissioner of Police (Ag.), Mc Donald Jacob, joined Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, Member of Parliament for Port of Spain North and St. Ann’s West, Stuart Young and Minister of Finance, Colm Imbert at the ceremony.

In giving the welcome address, Commissioner of Police (Ag.), Mc Donald Jacob, said that the opening of this station is in keeping with “the demand for improved operational excellence and service to the community”. He shared that the St Clair Station boasts a suite of services from the Special Victims Department (SVD), which includes the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU), the Sexual Offences Unit and the Child Protection Unit (CPU) alongside the core services of a police station.

The CoP (Ag.) shared that this new facility contains a juvenile booking centre with juvenile holding suites, an Identification (ID) Parade Room, and an interview room. He also remarked that the station was specifically re-modified to cater to the needs of the police officers and their clients with amenities conducive to a safe and comfortable environment for interventions, interviews and investigations. In closing, CoP (Ag.) Jacob urged the officers to take care of this new facility they call home, “Take care of your facility, but more importantly, take care of yourself, each other, and this great community.”

Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, shared that the station is strategically located and intended to support the network of stations in the Port of Spain Division. He stated the district of St. Clair is varied, and the station’s purpose is to make the police officers more accessible to the public. He further commended the Prime Minister on his initiative to redevelop several police stations during his tenure.

Prime Minister, Dr Keith Rowley, in his address expressed that exercises like this, are geared at equipping the Police Service to focus on serving the population of Trinidad and Tobago the way they should be served.
