New faces, fresh vibes expected at Calypso Fiesta today

Forty calypsonians will compete later today in the semi-final of the Calypso Monarch competition, with all contenders hoping for the chance to reach the ‘big yard’ and dethrone reigning Monarch, Terri Lyons.

Fresh and green, Mical Teja will be in his first calypso Monarch.
The ‘Hall of Fame’ singer drew position no.24, while Olatunji Yearwood, with his hit “Engine Room’ will be performing in 37th position, just before recently crowned Young King, Snakey in 38th.

Veterans and former monarchs Sugar Aloes and Chalkdust will perform in positions 33 and 36 respectively.

The action at the newly-refurbished Skinner Park begins at 1pm today, with gates opening from as early as 10am.
