NATUC head not against SRC recommendations, but says public servants should also benefit

General Secretary of the National Trade Union Center (NATUC) Michael Annisette says that he is not against the recommendations for salary increases for high level public officials including the Prime Minister, however the increases must be on par with the proposed increases entire public service workforce.

The recommendations were made in the SRC’s 117th report which was tabled in the House of Representatives on Friday. The Commission recommended an increase in the Prime Minister’s monthly salary from $59,680 to $80,000. If approved, the Prime Minister will become the highest paid public official, with a pay even above the President. Annisette was responding to the announcement by the Salaries review commission, that high level public official should have salary increases:

He said the recommendations of the Salaries review commission are reflective of the analysis NATUC would have completed for it’s membership over the three year period:

The SRC also  recommended an increase in the Opposition Leader’s salary from $29,590 to $47,500. The revised salaries, if accepted by the Cabinet, will take effect from October 1, 2020. Annisette was speaking on the Power Breakfast Show this morning.
