A meeting of the Joint Select Committee on National Security is told some holders of licensed firearms have been negligent in their ownership of weapon.
The disclosure comes from Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds.
Minister Hinds made the point during the eleventh meeting of the JSC on Wednesday.
The committee examined factors that contribute to the prevalence of illegal firearms and gun violence in Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister Hinds, said there have been instances where FUL owners left the weapon in vehicles or did not secure them properly, while some were showing off with the weapon.
The committee was told there have been instances where licensed firearms have been made available to criminals for nefarious activity.
