National Workers Union Says No To Reopening Of Niquan Plant

The National Workers Union is supporting the position of the Southern Marines Steelband Foundation the Niquan Gas to Liquid plant on the compound of the Pointe-A-Pierre refinery not be reopened.

On April 7th 2021, there was a huge explosion of this very plant that shook the fenceline communities of Marabella, Vistabella, Gasparillo, Plaisance Park and surrounding areas.

In a media release on Tuesday, the NWU noted that on October 19th 2022, the Express newspaper published an advertisement on page 21 which makes it clear the Niquan Gas to Liquid plant on the compound of the Pointe-A-Pierre refinery has resumed production.

It said the US-based company, in the ad. boasts it has achieved commercial readiness status and alleges its production of paraffinic diesel and naphtha is biodegradable and sulphur free.
