National Self Help Commission To Review Criteria For Accessing Grants

A review is being carried of the current criteria for grants as well as the amount of material citizens are able to access from the National Self Help Commission.

At present the Commission disburses the emergency repair and reconstruction assistant grant with an upward limit of 25,000 and the minor repair grant of 15,000.

It has been noted that there is no upward cap or salary cap for citizens accessing the grants.

This point was made public by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Self Help Commission, Akins Greene.

This took place during the eleventh meeting of the Public Accounts Select Committee on Wednesday.

Mr Greene provided the response as the Chairman of the Committee enquired about the rising cost of construction material and the Commission’s capacity to address this development.

Chairman of the National Self-Help Commission, Adrian Winter, said at present land tax receipt and land tenure are two of the documents utilise in the criteria aspect.
