Nation-wide Covid-19 booster programme to begin on Monday

Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh has announced that this country’s COVID-19 Vaccine Booster Programme will begin on Monday, December 13th 2021.

Speaking at Saturday’s Ministry of Health media briefing, Deyalsingh emphasized that boosters will be voluntary, but is recommended.

He said the booster drive will see boosters being administered for those who would have received Sinopharm, Astra Zeneca or Johnson & Johnson.
The dates being assigned for boosters are based on the anniversary date for when 2nd shots were being administered.

Persons who received Astra Zeneca will receive Pfizer as a booster, those who received Sinopharm will get a Sinopharm booster and those who got J&J will have the choice of either Pfizer or J&J.

Boosters for those who received a Pfizer regime will begin in March 2022.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram stated that not taking a booster shot will not affect a person’s vaccination status, as persons will still be considered fully vaccinated once they’ve had two shots in a two shot regime or one shot in a one shot regime.

Persons aged 60 and over who received 2 doses of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine should get the additional dose 3 to 6 months after final dose of the vaccine or soonest thereafter.
Moderately and Severely immunocompromised persons of any age who received the required does of any COVID-19 vaccine should get the additional dose 1 to 3 months after final dose of the vaccine or soonest thereafter.
