Naparima MP Warns Senior Public Servants & Board Members – Operate Always Within The Law.

Senior public servants, board members of state enterprises and statutory bodies are being reminded of their obligations to act within the law and in the interest of Trinidad and Tobago and not to be blind operatives of any political administration.

The advice comes from Member of Parliament for Naparima, Rodney Charles.

MP Charles said public employees whether in Government Ministries, State enterprises or statutory bodies must stay focused on their duties, operate always within the law and be mindful of the national interest.

Mr Charles said Under Section 99 of the Companies Act 1995, Directors and officers of companies must act honestly, in good faith and in the best interests of the company.

Mr Charles said in the public service, the framers of our Constitution inserted the various Service Commissions to protect public servants from injudicious actions of politicians.

Mr Charles said there are enough protections for those operating within the law.

MP Charles reminded public servants they exist solely to provide professional advice and diligently carry out the policies of decision makers within the law, and further to that, the legal responsibility for those decisions lies squarely on their shoulders.
