Citizens who were adversely affected by flooding in late November, are set to begin receiving their payment relief grants this Thursday, 29th December.
Government announced on December 1st, that it had allocated $50M in flood relief for farmers and citizens.
The Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, in a GML report today, confirmed that 600 cheques have been approved and people can look forward to calls from her Ministry’s officials with instructions on how the cheques can be collected.
She said her ministry received over four thousand requests.
Minister Cox assured that more cheques will be approved and distributed daily and it will be done in the order of when they were received and not by geographic location.
Cox did admit that some people applied more than once and, in some cases, applicants did not use their full names on the forms. She said this would have led to some challenges in processing the requests.
