MP pleads for forex for companies affected by Chaguanas warehouse fire

Government is being asked to provide the necessary foreign exchange allocations to those companies that had their goods destroyed in a Chaguanas warehouse fire.

The call has been issued by Caroni East MP Dr Rishad Seecharan.

The warehouse, which stocked goods for Alisha Marketing and Seumeds Limited Poultry Equipment at Citrus Drive, Enterprise, Chaguanas, burned down a week ago and estimated losses of plant, machinery and stocks have been put at $35 million.

Seecharan is asking that the owners be allowed to buy an “adequate sum” of foreign exchange to rebuild their companies.

He said all of the products marketed by the companies were imported.

One company imported electrical and home decor products, while another imported and distributed veterinary pharmaceuticals and agro supplies.

Seecharan said “The companies are the largest in their respective fields, and they also supply Caribbean markets.
