The Ministry of Works and Transport has acknowledged Thursday’s protest action in the Claxton Bay community.
In a media release the Ministry said as it relates to the area of concern it commenced rehabilitation works along the Southern Main Road 40km mark, Claxton Bay in November 2021.
The Ministry said rehabilitation works were divided into two components.
It said the first component included the removal of the existing footpath and construction of subsurface drains.
The Ministry said this was necessary to protect the road structure from saturation by water.
To date, these works have been completed and repair of the roadway originally scheduled for Wednesday 19th January 2022 will now commence on Monday 24th January, 2022 between 8:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m and continuing nightly.
In light of the above, motorists are advised to comply with the following proceed with caution and observe all directional signs and barriers.
Motorists should drive at a reduced speed on approaching the work zone.
Comply with instructions from Police Officers on-site to facilitate a safe and orderly flow of traffic.
Be aware of heavy equipment entering and exiting the site.
Drive with caution on all milled (possibly uneven) surfaces.
The Ministry apologizes for any inconvenience caused, and will continue to work with the community to complete all road rehabilitation works in the area in the shortest possible timeframe.
