More than 50 percent of teenagers vaccinated…but numbers on the decline

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh says that the elderly and immunocompromised people who have already been vaccinated against Covid-19 should access an additional dose of the vaccine to further protect them against the virus.

Deyalsingh told Power 102 Digital that this should not be referred to as a “booster shot” but, rather, an additional primary dose.

These people would have already received two doses of the Sinopharm, AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccines, or one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and were deemed to be fullyvaccinated.

Meanwhile Minister Deyalsingh also revealed that more than 50 percent of teenagers are vaccinated against COVID.

However, there is no indication as to the length of time it may take for herd immunity to be achieved in secondary schools as Minister Deyalsingh told Power 102 that the uptake has slowed among the 12-18 age group.
