More Rain! Met Office says Yellow Level Alert in effect until 6pm today

Keep those umbrella’s close as the Met Office has issued a second Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert ending at 6pm today, May 5th.

The original alert was supposed to end at 6pm Tuesday, but the latest update states that while light rain is expected, the intensity is forecast to increase during the morning.

There is a medium chance of isolated thunderstorms but a high potential for intermittent, moderate to heavy rainfall throughout the day.

The Met Office notes that this increases the risk for localized flooding and can exacerbate impacts from Tuesday’s rainfall activity.

River levels in the main river courses are contained at this time but there is the likelihood that tributaries and smaller river courses can overflow their banks.

Landslips may occur in areas so prone and gusty winds in excess of 45 km/hr may accompany heavy showers or thunderstorms.

Rainfall on Tuesday led to flooding in various parts of T&T, including Sangre Grande, Penal and Rio Claro.
