Government confirms Monkeypox has been added to the list of dangerous infectious diseases as was done for Covid-19.
This will allow the government to invoke the powers under the public health ordinance and quarantine act to isolate and treat suspected and confirmed cases.
This information was put forward by Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh in the Senate on Thursday.
Minister Deyalsingh was asked during the question and answer period whether the Government intends to institute immediate travel restrictions to countries where the virus has been detected.
Mr Deyalsingh provided details relating to the other measures in place to protect the population at the ports of entry.
Minister Deyalsingh commented on the readiness of the medical fraternity to treat with monkey pox cases.
