MoH says Pfizer and BioNtech vaccine likely to be administered in TT

Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, said it is highly possible that the Pfizer and BioNtech vaccines are the ones that will be administered in T&T.

Although he stated in the past that the Moderna vaccine was the best fit for TT, due to the way it is stored, Deyalsingh revealed during today’s Ministry of Health virtual press conference, that the ministry has requested technical information for a handful of other vaccine candidates from the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO).

“Once the Pfizer vaccine passes all the regulatory approvals via CARPHA, the technical advisory group for the Caribbean, and the local advisory group, the Pfizer vaccine could possibly be the first one to be used in Trinidad and Tobago,” he said.

The Pfizer and BioNtech vaccine was validated by the WHO on December 31st 2020 for emergency use.

It is already being administered in some of the most affected global populations, such as the United Kingdom and 27 European Union states.
