MoH pre-orders unapproved Sinopharm vaccine from China

The Minister of Health has revealed that this country has made a pre-order for the Chinese made Sinopharm vaccine, which is yet to receive World Health Organisation (WHO) approval.

Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said on Wednesday that he and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Roshan Parasram had finalised the pre-order and that it was contingent on WHO compliance.

He said they will place an order, pending approval and once approval has been given by the WHO, TT will have “one foot in the door.”

Deyalsingh said this process was not new and specific to Tuesday’s discussions between Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and China President Xi Jinpeng.
He added “All the bilateral talks we have had, we have given then indicative orders,” he said.

Sinopharm is now expected to be approved by “earliest April”. The status of the assessment is listed as “in progress”.
