MOH launches separate investigation into deaths of 7 premature babies at NICU

The Health Ministry has launched a separate investigation into the deaths of seven premature babies at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of the Port of Spain General Hospital.

Speaking in the Parliament on Friday, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the deaths were recorded between April 4th and April 7th.

According to Mr Deyalsingh, lab tests revealed the presence of three different organisms known to pose significant risks to vulnerable neonates.

He says as of April 7th, no new infections have been reported, with admissions resuming on April 10th.

He adds that CARIRI will be on site from today (Saturday), and assures that more will be said once data from the different reports are available.
