MoH and MoE to discuss possible reopening of schools

The possible reopening of schools will be top of the agenda today, when the Ministries of Health and Education meet.

In December, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley said face to face classes could resume for some students on February 8th 2021.
At the time, he said the decision would depend on the number of cases recorded after the Christmas holiday season.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram spoke on the matter Wednesday when asked about measures for students who are deemed to be ‘high-risk’.

Without giving any information on the meeting to avoid preempting the talks, Dr Parasram stated only “We’re having a discussion with the ministry – that’s the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education called by the Honourable Minister on Thursday morning to discuss what is going to happen with the school situation.”

Schools were closed one day after the first case was reported on March 13, 2020.
Virtual classes, which began in September, continue to fill the void left by physical classes.

The CMO also reiterated that children will not be given the vaccine at this point in time.
