MoH allocates 1,000 vaccines for the elderly in long-stay homes

One thousand doses of the Sinopharm vaccine for Covid19, have been set aside for the elderly housed at long-stay homes.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh, speaking during yesterday’s media conference at the Diplomatic Centre in St Ann’s, said 1,000 Sinopharm vaccines have been allocated specifically for the elderly people in these long-stay homes.

However, he noted that while the elderly are vulnerable to the virus, some are unable to give consent due to mental challenges and other issues.

As such, he is calling on the relatives and guardians of elderly people in long-stay homes to give consent for them to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

He said the process has already begun to vaccinate staff at these homes.
