The Ministry of Education has confirmed that the school where a two-year-old boy drowned in a pool on Tuesday is not registered or affiliated with the ministry.
As such, the Ministry will now be investigating the operations of said school – The Ethos Speech Therapy School for Children, located in Balmain, Couva.
Little Romelu Drakes drowned in a pool in the backyard of the school on Tuesday.
Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly expressed her condolences to the family on Thursday and said that “Unconfirmed information suggests that speech therapy classes take place there, but it is not registered by/affiliated with the MOE.”
She said the owners of the school will also be held in breach of the Covid19 regulations, since the Ministry of Health had not yet given approval for the operation of daycares or preschools, which would be the institutions that usually provide care for two-year-old children.
She said the ministry is now looking at the operations of the school “to be sure of what exactly is happening there.”
