Despite boasting that all its ECCE, primary and secondary school were reopened this morning, the Education Ministry has made note of a few schools where classes for some will be delayed.
In a release this morning, the ministry advised that 125 secondary schools, 452 primary schools and 143 government and government-assisted and 57 Servol ECCE Centres reportedly resumed operations for the new school year today.
However, some schools are having a ‘partial’ back-to-school return due to ongoing repairs, namely Holy Faith Convent, Penal and St George’s College, Barataria.
At Holy Faith Convent, the Ministry said due to ongoing roof repairs, Forms 2 and 3 will rotate attendance for the next two weeks.
The Ministry said all other Forms are expected to attend school as scheduled.
At St George’s College, orientation for Forms 1 and 2 will take place over the next two days.
The Ministry said the school is “fully prepared to welcome the other forms, with classrooms cleaned and ready”, with “minor repacking” still ongoing in the staff room, art room and a few specialty rooms.
The Ministry said its July-August repair programme addressed “several critical infrastructure needs”:
“As is usual, repair works continue at over 60 schools, with the additional projects set to begin in September, and as becomes necessary during the school year.
“These projects required additional funding to be allocated to the Ministry, as the annual budget allocation for emergency repairs was exceeded by May 2024, due to the volume of repairs required at schools.”
The Ministry also confirmed that PTSC transportation services and school meal programmes also resumed today.
