Despite the halt of Christmas gatherings at government spaces, the Ministry of Social Development and Family celebrated the yuletide season through its Christmas Office Décor Competition. Themed: “Deck the Halls with Bows of Holly” workspaces were transformed into a Christmas Wonderland filled with handmade decorations, Christmas lights and much more. The idea for the staff-oriented activity was hosted within the context of promoting safe camaraderie and spreading Christmas cheer to staff even as the country grapples with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the associated restrictions and protocols.
Among participating Offices for the competition were the NGO Unit, National Social Development Programme, Social Investigations Division, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, Point Fortin Local Board and Legal Unit. In the end, the Non-Governmental Unit copped first place with their theme “Whoville” with the Monitoring and Evaluation and Legal Units placing second and third respectively.
During a brief prize giving distribution held yesterday at the Ministry’s Head Office in Port of Spain, Minister Cox commended all the contestants for an incredible job done extending greetings to those present for a happy, holy and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Prizes included a tablet device contributed by Minister Cox herself as well as hampers which were specially organised through fundraisers hosted by the Ministry’s Sports and Cultural Events Committee.
