Employees of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services are exposed to the information to be better prepared for dealing with emergency situations.
This formed part of the Ministry’s efforts to commemorate World Day For Safety and Health at Work recently.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work promotes the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally.
This year the theme “Act together to build a positive safety and health culture” places focus on enhancing social dialogue towards a culture of safety and health.
There was the setting of an information and display booth at the Ministry’s Head Office on St Vincent Street, Port of Spain.
Among other things, the display showcases brochures on health and safety in the workplace, as well as samples of safety equipment and personal protective gear.
Chairperson of the Ministry’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee, June Ali, the objective of the OSH Committee, is to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and to prepare employees for dealing with emergency situations.
She indicated that the Ministry’s initiative is designed to minimize injury, loss of human life, and to manage Ministry resources by training employees, procuring and maintaining necessary equipment, and assigning responsibilities in the event of an emergency.
