Ministry Of Labour Launches Know Your Rights E-Campaign

Retrenchments, dismissals, alteration of terms and conditions of workers, non-payment of salaries and overtime pay in addition to maternity matters are being described as among the top disputes and workplace issues.

This information is confirmed by the Ministry of Labour’s Conciliation, Advisory and Advocacy Division and the Labour Inspectorate Unit.

It comes ahead of Sunday’s commemoration of  Labour Day in Trinidad and Tobago.

To recognize this historic day, the Ministry of Labour has heightened its public education drive during the month of June with the launch of its Know your Rights campaign.

In a media release on Thursday the Ministry said this campaign aims to increase employees’ and employers’ awareness on their rights and responsibilities as outlined in the various labour laws enforced.

The Ministry of Labour’s e-Poster and video series campaign: “Know Your Rights Nuggets” is a targeted campaign which outlines the proper workplace practices aligned to the workplace issues identified.

It is hoped the continued sensitization by the Ministry will improve working relationships between employees and employers and reduce the number of workplace breaches.

This Campaign can be accessed on the Ministry of Labour’s social media pages on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube using the handle @labourgovtt.
