Ministry Of Health To Discontinue Covid19 News Releases

The Ministry of Health says it will be discontinuing its COVID-19 news releases in its current format.

The Ministry issued 1,250 such releases since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It said COVID-19 continues to circulate at a very low level in Trinidad and Tobago at this time.

In keeping with the downward trend, the epidemiological and hospitalisation data for the period April 29, 2023 to May 12, 2023 the rolling average of new cases is 10.

One COVID-19 related death, and  6.7 percent positivity rate was recorded (i.e., of every patient tested for COVID-19 at both public and private facilities, 6.7 out of every 100, was positive).

There were no patients within the Intensive Care Unit  or High Dependency Unit during the period mentioned.

It said this data is encouraging especially within an environment where there are very few public health restrictions in place at this time.

It reminds the public, particularly the vulnerable (those with chronic diseases, the elderly, pregnant patients and the unvaccinated), that they should continue to maintain the principles and practice of good hygiene as these measures will assist in the maintenance of our low levels of transmission of COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.
