Ministry completes scheduled distribution of Flood Relief Cheques

The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services has advised that over 1,500 cheques related to flood relief for several affected areas in Trinidad have been delivered.

Distributions took place during October 19 – 30, 2020 at the Ministry’s Head Office on St Vincent Street, Port of Spain.

Among those affected, were residents from Beetham, Penal/Debe, Sangre Grande, Kelly Village, Tunapuna/Piarco, Mayaro/Rio Claro, Santa Cruz, Siparia, San Juan/Barataria, Couva, Tabaquite/Talparo and Chaguanas regions.

This emergency distribution exercise came following large crowds at the Ministry’s head office in early October, following the close of the financial year.

While distribution of rental assistance cheques related to COVID-19 Social Support, continues to take place on a daily basis, the Ministry also made special arrangements to distribute the outstanding flood relief cheques, while ensuring that conformance with established protocols on social and physical distancing were observed; in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

While distributions of both flood relief and rental assistance cheques continue to take place, the Ministry reminds the public to avoid gathering in large crowds, at all of the Ministry’s offices, inclusive of its local board district offices, but instead observe the guidelines advised by the Ministry of Health to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
