The nephew of Trade Minister Paula Gopee-Scoon has been granted $200,000 bail on drug trafficking charges.
Michael Gopee, 33, appeared before a High Court Master charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Gopee was held by Central Division officers at Flower Pot Beach in Point-a-Pierre allegedly in possession of 1.057 grams of marijuana on Saturday 3rd August 2024.
At the time, he was reportedly driving along the Southern Main Road in Pointe-a-Pierre when he was stopped by police
Gopee reportedly got out and attempted to run away before being held.
Police officers claimed that they also found 60 rounds of ammunition in his pocket and more at his home. more ammunition and two firearm components were found.
Gopee also faced six charges for allegedly threatening to kill police officers involved in his arrest.
