Met: Be extremely careful at beaches!

The country has been placed under an Orange Level Hazardous Seas Alert and the Met Office is warning persons to be extremely careful at the beaches this long Christmas weekend.

Long-period swells originating from the far North Atlantic Ocean have travelled thousands of kilometres to produce large, breaking waves along Atlantic and northern-facing coastlines across the Lesser Antilles.

Speaking with News Power Now this morning Meteorologist Kiran Sedoo said that sea conditions are expected to get extremely rough and present dangerous conditions for those venturing out to sea.

Traditionally beaches in Trinidad particularly the North Coast and in Tobago are heavily populated for the Christmas and Boxing Day period, with many opting for sea and sand to as a way to drelax with family and friends.

However Sedoo issued a serious warning to those who intend to visit the beaches over the long Christmas weekend.
