Medical Board to set up Tribunal to investigate matter involving Dr. Avinash Sawh

The Medical Board of Trinidad and Tobago decides to set up a Tribunal to investigate infamous and disgraceful conduct against Dr. Avinash Sawh.

Confirmation of this comes from Attorney at Law, Martin George, this afternoon.

It is alleged Dr Sawh while being a member of the Medical Board participated in a conversation which was recorded and put into the
public domain in which he made comments that are capable of amounting to infamous and disgraceful conduct.

Attorney George said his legal team will meet with Dr Sawh to discuss this response which was received today.

The Council of the Medical Board has indicated it wishes to hold the first hearing of this Tribunal by July 2nd, 2021.

It says this hearing will be a virtual hearing.

The Council says on this date the tribunal does not propose to begin the hearing of the substantive matter but will use this occasion to explain the procedure as well as give directions for the filing of any preliminary issues for the tribunal’s consideration.

It says only when that process is completed depending on how the tribunal rules on preliminary arguments then it might become
necessary to set a date for an evidential hearing.
