Media fraternity assured its proposals on the Data Protection Act will be reviewed

Senior Legal Adviser at the Office of the Prime Minister, Devon Phillip, says there will be a review of proposals from the media fraternity for amendments to be made to the Data Protection Act.

The Senior Legal Adviser at the OPM gave the update while speaking at the 6th meeting of the Joint Select Committee on Finance and Legal Affairs Friday.

The Committee inquired into the state’s strategy for implementing unproclaim legislation passed by the parliament during the last twenty years with specific focus on Data Protection Act.

JSC Member, Jayanti Lutchmedial, during the proceedings wanted to know if steps are being taken to ensure press freedom is maintained.

The Senior Legal Adviser at the OPM responded indicated during consultations recommendations were received from the media and they will be reviewed.
