Questions are today being raised in the continuing saga of the controversial audio clip implicating Farley Augustine.
Responding to allegations concerning the tape last week Augustine, admitted he was one of the persons in the clip.
He said he was sent the audio clip, which features two voices discussing plans to hire persons in the THA to promote political propaganda for the Tobago People’s Party, in March of this year, some two months before it became public.
Augustine accused one contractor, who is owed millions of dollars by the THA, of seeking to blackmail his executive into paying a $60 million sum due using the recently leaked audio clip.
Speaking with News Power Now this morning Head of the Tobago business Chamber Martin George said that the response by Mr Augustine raised more questions than answers.
He said one of them was why Mr Augustine did he not report the incident to the police authorities, instead choosing to suffer at the hands of those he said were blackmailing him.
Commenting on the contractor he said was at the center of blackmail attempts, Mr Augustine explained that the intention was to force the THA to pay up the monies owed.
He claimed the individual had also threatened to release a recording which would expose an alleged sexual relationship he (Augustine) had with a mutual acquaintance of theirs.
He said he believed former deputy chief secretary Watson Duke had leaked the clip, since the latter was one of the persons who had attempted to intercede in the payment dispute on the contractor’s behalf.
Speaking with our newsroom this morning George said that Mr Augustine needed to back up his allegations with solid proof.
