Hold back on the increase in new electricity rates!
This is the appeal coming from Opposition Senator, Wade Mark.
He claims this move is necessary due to what he described as hardships facing many citizens in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Regulated Industries Commission presented the new rate for T&TEC’s residential, commercial and industrial customers on Thursday.
However, T&TEC has been asked by the RIC to deliberate on the new rate before reaching a final decision.
Contributing to the budget debate this morning, Mark told the Parliament to hold off on any increase in T&TEC rates as many families are under pressure due to the rising cost of living.
Mr Mark claimed new T&TEC rates will have a domino effect on prices which could have serious implications for the population.
He said faced with increasing pressure the population would riot.
