Mark accuses Imbert of misconduct; says he must resign over private condo project

Wade Mark said he intends to give the Finance Minister a lot of migraines where the construction of a million dollar apartment building is concerned.

The Opposition senator, during a media briefing on Saturday, said that Colm Imbert was involved in the construction of a condominium complex on Picton Street in Port of Spain, which he claimed would fetch $55 million dollars once the apartments were sold.

He said Imbert would be benefitting from tax breaks and needed to produce evidence to show that he was not engaged in any conflict of interest as minister and a private entrepreneur.

According to Mark, “He cannot be a private-sector entrepreneur sitting in the seat of the Minister of Finance and bringing measures in the Parliament that would, directly and indirectly, benefit him. That is misconduct in public office.”

Mark said “Imbert must make a choice, either he remains as Minister of Finance or tender his resignation; he cannot wear both caps at the same time.”
Mark said that this was a matter that the police should be investigating, and also a matter that should be engaging the attention of the Integrity Commission.
