Manning: Less outcry from persons with reference to the Property Tax

Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Brian Manning, claims there is far less outcry from persons with reference to the Property Tax.

The disclosure was made while speaking on the Power Breakfast Show Wednesday morning.

Manning said there was some misunderstanding before when the valuation notices were sent out and persons believed that was the figure they had to pay.

It was emphasized the actual amount people pay for the entire year is only 2% of the value of their property.

Minister Manning said the money collected from the Property Tax goes into a fund and by law cannot be used for anything other than local Government activities.

When questioned on concerns from citizens who have paid the Property Tax that not enough is being done in their burgesses with the funds, the Minister said corporations are required to perform the duties given to them and as such dissatisfied persons would have grounds to raise the issue.
