Man set to file legal action against TTPS after Belmont incident

A pre-action protocol letter is expected to be served on the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The legal action is being taken by a man, who was arrested in Gonzales, Belmont on Tuesday, during an incident involving a toddler.

The man, from Gonzales, was charged with disorderly behaviour, resisting arrest and obscene language.

The incident, which was caught on camera, occurred near the St Augustine Road and Gloster Lodge Link Road.

Two officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force were on mobile patrol when they stopped the car the men were travelling in.
It is alleged that the incident escalated between lawmen and the suspects, following which the driver and the passenger were arrested.

A video posted to social media showed a group of officers intervening in a situation involving the two men—one of whom was holding the baby.

The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) is also investigating the incident.
