Man killed in police-involved shooting in Western Division

The Trinidad and Tobago Police confirmed that one man was killed in a police-involved shooting incident which occurred in the Western Division earlier today.

Officers of the Joint Army Patrol Unit were on mobile patrol around 12:30 pm, on Tuesday 17th March 2020, when they were stopped by a man who told them a female relative was being held against her will by an intruder at a house at Goodwood Park.

The officers proceeded to the location and made their way into the house where they observed a suspect armed with a gun. The officers called out to the man to drop the weapon, however, he pointed it in their direction. Officers in accordance with the Use of Force policy, shot at the gunman.

He was taken to the St. James Medical Facility where he died.

A Glock pistol and a quantity of ammunition were recovered from the scene. Three female victims who were in the house at the time of the incident were found to be safe. The gunman has not been identified as yet.

Investigations are ongoing.
