Man detained with gun, ammo and marijuana

Surveillance operations have led to a 33-year-old man being arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

On January 11th, 2021, upon receiving information about illicit activities, officers took up strategic positions along Rampersad Trace, Sangre Grande. While in position, the officers observed a man attempting to conceal items in some bushes on the southern side of the roadway.

The officers approached, searched the man and allegedly found in a knapsack, seven wrapped plastic packages each containing marijuana, with a total weight of seven kilogrammes. A further search resulted in the seizure of one metal box containing an extended magazine loaded with 29 rounds of nine millimetre ammunition and one camouflage jacket.

The 33-year-old man of Rampersad Trace was immediately arrested.

The operation was conducted by personnel of the Criminal Investigation Department, Eastern Division Task Force and the Special Operations Unit.
